Thoughts about
our first meeting and walk through
Captain Con's
Fish House Does not seem like any extra-ordinary place when you first
look at it. When we first arrived at the Restaurant you get a
feel of a very nice and friendly business with a owner that loves what
she does, serve people great food. But that is not all she does,
The owner and her entire staff are some of the most outgoing people we
have met, when it comes to making you feel welcome.
Once we entered the
building, we were met by the owner, and her staff for what we
call a meet and greet. Which is what we do with all of our
clients. During a meet and greet, We listen to all the clients
accounts, and allow them to ask any questions about us our how we do
things that they can think up. In the case of Captain Con's they
had a lot to tell us, they told us of feelings of being pushed to
actually seeing something out of the corner of their eye's that they
believe where "ghosts".
We then proceeded to
Walk through the restaurant. While the owner and her staff
explained what they saw and then where they saw it. Once again,
they were very specific and very educational on their beliefs about
their personal experiences.
History of
Pine, Bokeelia Island
In the year 1513, famous Spanish
explorer, Ponce de Leon, finding no suitable anchorage for his 3-ship
flotilla on the southeastern coast of Florida proceeded to sail around
the tip of the state and then north, up the Gulf coast.
On May 23rd, he discovered the "islands that jutted out into the
sea." Finding an opening between Cayo Costa and Gasparilla
Islands, he sailed into Charlotte Harbor, anchoring eventually in a
protected sound off an 18-mile-long island covered with tropical
foliage. The "sound" was Pine Island Sound and the tropical
island, of course, Pine Island. In a return trip to the area in 1521,
de Leon was fatally wounded by an arrow in a fight with native Calusa
Indians, dying a few days later in Hispaniola.
Whether the subject is the Calusa Indians and their mysterious
ceremonial shell mounds, Ponce de Leon and the Spanish explorers, or
the notorious coastal pirates of a later century, such as Jose Gaspar
(Gasparilla), the history and folk legends of Pine Island make for
fascinating reading.
Largely forgotten during the first half of the century (electricity
did not come to the island until 1941), Pine Island, with its
enchanting natural beauty, is now being rediscovered by thousands of
people looking for a place to live that still retains the authentic
charm and natural splendor of "Old Florida."
Still comprised primarily of unspoiled natural terrain, featuring
lush, tropical and subtropical foliage, stands of Lob-lolly pines, and
hundreds of inlets, creeks, bays and sounds, all teeming with fish and
wildlife... Pine Island today is one of the last areas on the Gulf
Coast that pretty much looks the same as it did a hundred years ago.
The island's current population of approximately 7800 year-round
residents is for the most part congregated in four basic communities.

Some history of
Captain Con's Fish House Restaurant
Located at the northern
tip of Pine Island, with a sweeping view of Charlotte Harbor and Boca
Grande Pass, Bokeelia is a gem of a spot, sprinkled with resort
cottages, two marinas and some of the greatest fishing piers in the
world. In 1904, H. W. Martin built the first house where a popular
restaurant is today. Inside was Bokeelia's first post office and
store, and his wife ran a boarding house for passengers off the boats.
It was the pioneer settlers of Bokeelia who made the Pine Island
mangoes famous. The piers at Bokeelia and nearby Jug Creek are
legendary in Southwest Florida for great snook fishing. And, of
course, Boca Grande Pass... the most famous tarpon fishing spot in the
world, is just minutes away by boat.
Some points of
paranormal interest
There have been other
research teams that have studied with high interest Captain Con's Fish
House, such as SWIPI, and Florida Paranormal Research Inc., and now
our team. When it comes down to having research done on this
restaurant, the owners are no strangers. In fact they are
extremely outgoing and willing to help.
For our investigation, we requested Florida Paranormal Research to
join us on this venture of research due to the fact that they were
very well versed in this business' history and folklore. For us,
this was the best move we could have made.
When it comes to research in the field, like many other jobs, we have
a saying: "If it can go wrong, it will". This case was
no exception, we had power supply issues, we had computer issues and
everything else that should have and would have ruined the
investigation. Luckily! We did invite F.P.R. and the white
noise network! Don't get me wrong, we would have fixed the
issues, and this is not how bad a investigation normally runs, but it
did that night. F.P.R. had our backs that night, all their
equipment was there and it all worked with ours very well. This
saved us hours of rework and running for our backup equipment.
Which is one of the reasons we (Paranormal Extreme) advocate a network
like the White Noise Network, where our teams are there to help each
other in every way we can from support, to extra personnel, and even
sharing our equipment.
Putting it as briefly as possible, we
used multiple: Infra-red cameras, digital voice recorders,
handheld digital cameras, handheld video cameras that had
Infra-red capabilities, handheld electro-magnetic field
detectors, K-2 meters, digital thermometers, and a
paranormal-puck.
We also completed the investigation live on www.ghostshow.us
on Saturday night Paranormal, operating on I believe 4 screens that
night and hosting a chatroom where people at home were able to talk to
our investigators live and ask questions or let us know if they seen
anything firsthand.
Some of the Folklore
One key point/folklore
is there is a tree directly behind the restaurant that seems to be
nicknamed the "hanging tree". This tree is mentioned
to have been used to hang some "criminals" by.
According to this rumor: this point of the island was a long way
from the closest courthouse and judge, so when a person did a crime
that deserved it, they would have a trial right there. If the
criminal was found guilty, there was the tree to hang him by....of
course the crime would have been worthy of death, They weren't
barbarians!
Another key
point/folklore is that One of the original owners that used the
building for a bed and breakfast and also made the first post office
in the building. Sadly this family lost one of their precious
daughters to the ocean (a drowning). The ocean is only a few
yards out front of the building which still exists today. In
fact, the building is still very much how it was back then.
obviously it now has a/c and better electrical and better pluming, but
the building is still very much the same shape, and same rooms as it
was then.
Another key
point/folklore is that many believe one of the original owners
(female), still resides in the building making herself known to the
clients and staff when she feels like it.
Lights!
Camera! Action! - Results?
We spent months
studying the results from the investigation. Unlike what people
have seen on tv, this type of review process does not happen
overnight. In fact for every hour we are investigation, you
times that for each video camera, plus we get a hour of review for
each voice recording, then all of the pictures, handheld video
cameras, etc. I am sure you get the picture.
Once we completed our review we basically are down to this:
1.)
We had multiple videos that we recorded, sadly we had no evidence of
paranormal activity recoded on any video we reviewed.
2.)
We had multiple digital voice recorders recoding throughout the
investigation. We did have some anomalies that our team found of
interest. In our research they are characterized as E.V.P.'S,
Also known as Electronic Voice Phenomenon's- which is a disembodied
voice that were not heard by anyone
present
3.)
We didn't have any pictures that showed any paranormal activity.
4,)
We did have some reactions picked up by the paranormal puck.
When we sent 5 of our investigators out to the tree to see if they get
any responses on any of our equipment. When it came to
the paranormal puck, it responded with: Five, Gather,
Tree, Night. The fact was that there were five investigators
that gathered at the tree that night at that point in time, which
seems to
validate the puck.
5.)
Personal experiences: We had a few of them, we had team members
that felt as if they were brushed by something or someone. We
had members that heard, what sounded like someone
speak to them, when no-one was there. We had a couple of Sensitizes
that gave their beliefs of what was going on. Even though we do
listen and respect "sensitizes, we will not call anything
haunted by simply their opinions only, we do go by physical evidence
or recorded evidence that we can replay on demand for proof.
6.)
We also had a lot of reactions / interactions with our K2
meters. We tried to verify that the interactions with us were
paranormal or not by looking for other excuses. We found no
electrical
devices, wiring, battery operated devices. We found no
explainable reaction for the K2 responding to our questions like it
did, and with the timing it answered.
Conclusion:
By
results of:
a)
Scientific equipment
b) History and folklore found to
be true
c) Personal experiences
d) verifiable facts
e) re-viewable/
re-playable recordings

We
Paranormal
EXtreme
( Px
), through
months of study, research and review have come to the
following conclusions:
We have been
unable to verify if any of the original owners daughters have
drowned in the ocean directly in front of the
home.
We have not been able to verify if anyone has been hanged by
the tree, even though it is commonly believed to have
happened.
We have studied our video, audio, pictures as well as all of
our other equipment. Paranormal Extreme has decided that
due to the lack of evidence that we feel is tangible enough to
call this restaurant as "Haunted". We find the
word "Haunted", is used much too often and too easily,
we do not. It is a word to describe a location that is
very active with activity of the paranormal kind. and it
needs to be of substance as well as repeatable to some point.
When it comes
to Captain Con's Fish House, We do find that there is some
"activity" going on that at this time we are unable
to explain out. We feel voice recordings is not
enough to call it haunted because voice recordings may be
picked up from extremely strong radio signals, T.V. signals
and/or even loud voices that are from people passing by that
we were unaware of or team members that got to loud that we
didn't notice for one reason or another. Without any
pictures or audio to verify the audio events, we find it
impossible to make the call of
"Haunted".
Final Decision
of the Classification of Captain Con's Fish House is:
ACTIVE
The term
"ACTIVE"
in the this case means that there is some occurrences that we
can't explain with our present technology, and these things seem
to be outside of
what we call normal occurrences or paranormal . But even
with evidence that we have built up on this case, we do not
have enough to say with any strength of mind or through proof
of evidence that this is definitely a location.
